Heterogeneity of midbrain dopaminergic neurons with respect to molecular composition, electrophysiological properties, and projection patterns has been well-recognized, yet little is known about how this heterogeneous population modulate specific brain functions. My major goal is to determine the functional heterogeneity of dopaminergic circuits and how specific neuronal populations contribute to distinct behaviors.
